The CTA Tuesday afternoon restored service on all 'L' three lines serving the Wells and Van Buren portions of the Loop 'L." CTA engineers conducted stress tests throughout the morning and determined that the 'L' structure in the vicinity of the Quincy station was safe for full service. The Quincy station itself will remain closed until repairs are completed on the street below.
Restoration of 'L' service means that Brown Line trains will resume operation around the outer Loop, stopping at the Washington/Wells, LaSalle/Van Buren and Library-State/Van Buren stations before returning to their regular route on Wabash and Lake back to Wells.
Orange Line trains will stop at stations on the inner Loop, including Library-State/Van Buren, LaSalle/Van Buren and Washington/Wells, on their way to the Lake and Wabash portions of the Loop 'L' that they have continued to serve.
Starting in the afternoon rush period, Purple Line Express trains will resume their trips to the Loop and back to Linden Avenue in Wilmette. Southbound from the Merchandise Mart, these trains will serve all stations around the inner Loop, except Quincy, starting at Clark/Lake, with the last stop at Washington/Wells before heading north on Wells across the Chicago River.
The free Loop Bus shuttle, which was established to help customers connect to Brown and Orange Line trains from the west side of the Loop, will remain in operation through Tuesday evening to serve those who may not have learned about 'L' service restoration before the start of the afternoon rush period.
#37 Sedgwick/Ogden buses will remain detoured while Wells remains closed for street repairs between Adams and Jackson. #37 buses will continue to operate south on Wells to Adams, west on Adams to Wacker, and south on Wacker to Harrison, where they will return to the regular route.
CTA appreciates the patience of its customers during the period of the service interruption.
